# Temporal Clash

The warehouse erupted into chaos.

Steel clashed against steel as the heroes and villains danced their ancient choreography of destruction. Sparks flew like fractured stars. The air screamed with power.

Kazuki stood at the precipice of victory, his blade glowing cerulean blue, when Vex emerged from the darkness—the temporal villain. They called him the Chrono Wraith. His palm already glowed with that sickly violet hue.

"See you in forever, kid," Vex grinned.

Kazuki's eyes widened. *No—*

The temporal blast erupted outward like a supernova. Reality bent. Time fractured.

Everything went white.

---

Kazuki's eyes snapped open.

The sun was wrong. Too pale. The sky hung in shades of rust and ash. He pushed himself up on trembling legs, dust cascading from his armor—armor that now felt ancient, the metal dull and brittle.

The world was gone.

Where the city had stood, only a colossal crater remained, concentric rings of devastation spreading to the horizon like some god's fingerprint. The crater was so vast, so complete, that Kazuki couldn't even imagine what could have caused it. His mind spun with the arithmetic of centuries.

*How long?*

A figure stood at the crater's center. Alone. Waiting.

Kazuki's breath caught. Even at this distance, even warped by time and shadow, he recognized that silhouette. That stance. *Him.*

Vex.

Rage flooded through Kazuki's veins like liquid fire. He drew his blade—corroded, weakened, but still *his*—and charged down the crater's slope, his voice cracking with five centuries of fury.

"VEXXX!"

Vex turned. And smiled.

Not the smile of malice. Not the grin of victory.

The smile of an old friend.

Kazuki skidded to a halt, confusion shattering his momentum like glass.

"Don't be scared," Vex said softly, hands raised and open. "I'm not going to fight you."

"What... what happened here?" Kazuki gestured at the wasteland. "The world. Everything."

Vex's eyes—ancient and tired—looked away toward the barren horizon. "After I killed you... I thought I'd finally won. Finally be free." He turned back, and there was something broken in his expression. "But victory without you was empty, Kazuki. Do you understand? Without our clash, without you pushing back against me... I realized I had become *nothing*."

Kazuki's grip on his blade weakened.

"I spent five hundred years trying to find meaning. I conquered kingdoms. I broke empires. But none of it mattered. Because I was only ever *myself* when I was fighting *you*." Vex took a step closer. "You made me strong. You made me *real*."

"Then why..." Kazuki's voice cracked. "Why did you destroy everything?"

"Because I was broken. Because I thought the only way to fill the void was with more power, more destruction." Vex's gaze fixed on Kazuki's. "But I was wrong. The fights meant nothing—or rather, they meant *everything*, but not for the reasons either of us thought."

Kazuki felt something inside him splinter.

"I'm going to send you back," Vex said. "To that moment. Before the blast."

"Why?"

"Because you're the only one who can stop this." Vex raised his palm, that violet glow building again. "You need to convince your past self that there's another way. That we don't have to be enemies. That maybe..." his voice dropped to a whisper, "...maybe we could just stop fighting long enough to understand each other."

"Vex, I—"

"Tell him it's not a misunderstanding to overcome. It's an opportunity." Vex's smile returned, softer now, sadder. "Go. Make it different."

The temporal blast erupted.

Reality fractured again.

---

Kazuki's eyes snapped open to chaos, steel ringing, sparks flying like fractured stars. Vex stood before him, palm glowing violet, that smile already forming—

And this time, Kazuki lowered his blade.
